25% off for new Mighty Leaf Tea customers

While browsing through Mighty Leaf’s website in preparation for the review I just posted, I noticed that they have a great offer on for people who haven’t tried their tea pouches before: Buy your first tea pouches from Mighty Leaf and get 25% off.

There are actually three separate offers - one for herbal tea, another for black tea and a third for green tea.

Darjeeling First Flush 2009 from Mighty Leaf Tea

I have just now enjoyed my first taste of 2009’s first flush Darjeelings, courtesy of Mighty Leaf Tea. This year, Mighty Leaf have chosen Mim Estate for their single-estate Darjeeling offering. It’s a great choice: Mim Estate’s first flush serves admirably as a well-rounded black tea and a great example of that quintessential Darjeeling flavour.

Interview with Mary Lou Heiss, author of “The Story of Tea”

Today, I’m really pleased to publish an interview with Mary Lou Heiss. I have a small but growing collection of books about tea, and The Story of Tea: A Cultural History and Drinking Guide, which Mary Lou penned with her husband Bob, is by far the most comprehensive resource on the subject. The Story of Tea takes an in-depth look at the world of tea, covering the various types of tea, major tea producing countries and regions, tea culture and its history - among other things. Seriously, if there’s one book about tea you should have, it’s this one.

I was excited to have the opportunity to ask Mary Lou a few questions about her personal tea journey, what led her to write The Story of Tea and how she sees the economic crisis affecting the tea industry.

A Leaf and a Bud from Ya-ya Teahouse

This morning I dropped the lid of my glass teapot. It shattered on our kitchen floor. What, pray tell, am I now supposed to do with a teapot that has no lid?

With that out of the way, I turn now to the topic at hand: Ya-ya Teahouse’s A Leaf and a Bud, a furry, luscious tea from Assam’s Satrupa Estate. I’ve had a sample of this tea in my cupboard for months now, and enjoyed it on a few occasions, but decided to take a closer look today.

Today, I’m posting an interview I did with Lainie Petersen, who posts tea reviews, articles and other tea-related tidbits on her blog, Lainie Sips.

Tea Posters: 41 Great Examples of Tea Art

Tea posters

A few weeks ago, while scouring the web for tea art, I came across AllPosters.com, a site with thousands of posters you can order. To my surprise, I found that they have over 300 tea related posters!

I was pretty impressed with the quality of some of these posters, so thought I’d share some of my favourites.

Ceylon Kenilworth from Narien Teas

I grew up in a home where Dilmah is the black tea of choice. Dilmah Extra Strong, to be precise. As I delved deeper into the world of tea, it was China, Japan and India whose teas caught my attention. Dilmah and every other Sri Lankan tea was shoved to the side as I flirted with oolongs, greens, blacks and white teas from elsewhere.

But receiving a sample pack of Narien’s Ceylon Kenilworth a few weeks ago has reignited my interest in Sri Lankan tea.

Why does my green tea taste bad?

Earlier this year, I spent some time browsing Yahoo! Answers to see what kinds of questions people had about tea. One of the most common questions I came across was this: “I know green tea is supposed to be healthy, so I’m drinking it - but why does it taste so bad?”
